Deadly Mountains
Deadly Mountains is a series of photographs based on a list found on the internet about the world’s
10 most dangerous – or deadly – mountains. The list, an absurd mixture of facts, statistics, speculations
and myth, was first published on mensvogue.com and since circulates the internet in modified forms.
It is blogged about on websites and discussion forums and forms the starting point of my research
into the archaic world of mountains and mountaineering.
I am interested in the mountain as a space between life and death, an otherworldly place of danger and fear,
but also a zone of transgression, transformation and vision; Within this project I want to explore the notion
of danger: danger as a condition for certain experiences, danger as a both positive and negative quality, and death
as a part of life rather than the opposite of life.
Deadly Mountains will be presented in a solo exhibition later in 2010 alongside the publication of an
Artist’s Book of the series.
